International Vocational Education and Training Association (IVETA)

Linked with the "New and Related Services Division" of the American
Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE), is an independent international organization called the International Vocational Education and Training Association (IVETA).  It is an organization and network of public and public sector vocational educators, vocational skills training organizations, business and industrial firms, NGOs, and other individuals and groups interested or involved in vocational education and training worldwide.  IVETA is dedicated to the advancement and improvement of high-quality vocational education and training wherever it exists and wherever it is needed. Its permanent offices are located at the University
of Tennessee, Department of Human Resource Development.

IVETA is 15 years old and its 400+ members representing developed and developing countries throughout the world. IVETA conducts a number of on-going activities:

(1) Regional activities, for example this year in Montego Bay, Jamaica from July 31-August 2, 2001 IVETA is co-sponsoring a regional conference with the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ), the Jamaican Ministry of Education and the Jamaican Heart Trust. The conference title is: "Improving Vocational Education and Training Systems" and the website for more information is: www.ivetajamaica.com  (in 2000 it was in Hong Kong).

(2) Every year there is an annual conference at the ACTE conference in December (destination for 2001 is New Orleans) as part of the ACTE larger show (usually 5,000-8,000 participants). This affords a chance for all members to explore the trade show, which is huge and in itself is always worth the whole trip!
(3) Publishes a Newsletter three times a year.
(4) Publishes a Journal twice a year.
(5) Sponsors edited publications. The most recent is: Dennis R. Herschbach and Clifton P. Cambell, Workforce Preparation: An International Perspective, Tech Directions Books of Prakken Publications, Inc., Ann Arbor, MI (USA), 2000, ISBN 0-911168-98-2

State Directors, Executive Committee, Biographies, Membership
The National Council of State Directors of Community Colleges is an affiliated council of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).  The council provides a forum for the exchange of information about developments, trends, and problems in state systems of community colleges.

Through our affiliation with AACC, we also strive to affect national legislation that impacts our colleges and state agencies.

This is the only Council that represents the collective interest of state agencies and state boards of community colleges.  This council is a valuable forum to help state directors deal with the changes in attitude and policies towards community colleges at the international, federal, state and local levels.  We will share information and learn lessons from each other to better serve the interests of our institutions in the coming years.
